Dr. Victoria J. Bigelow is an accomplished academic and researcher affiliated with the University of Michigan. She earned her PhD in Higher Education with a concentration in Organizational Behavior from the University of Michigan's Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education. Her academic journey also includes a Master of Arts in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance from Eastern Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Voice and a minor in French from Marygrove College.
In her professional capacity, Dr. Bigelow serves as the Evaluation Coordinator for the Center for Education Design, Evaluation, and Research (CEDER) within the University of Michigan's School of Education. In this role, she develops evaluation plans for faculty and community partners seeking funding from various sources, overseeing a team of staff and students working on a diverse portfolio of projects. She also teaches a seminar for graduate-level evaluation interns in the School of Education.
Dr. Bigelow's research interests include qualitative data analysis and the use of computer-aided qualitative data analysis software. She has contributed to several publications, including "Community Resources and Educational Opportunities in Detroit: Baseline Assessment of Academic Progress Using the 2005-2009 Cohort of High School Students" and "The DIAMOND Portal: An Innovative Platform for Sharing Translational Research Workforce Training and Assessment Resources."
Beyond her academic and research endeavors, Dr. Bigelow has been instrumental in revitalizing arts education in Flint Community Schools. Since 2014, she has collaborated with the district to develop and implement plans to reintroduce music programs, reflecting her commitment to social justice and providing equitable access to arts education.
Dr. Bigelow is also a co-author of the book Left Behind: Urban High Schools and the Failure of Market Reform, which examines the challenges faced by urban high schools in the context of market-based educational reforms.
Her extensive experience in program and curriculum development, academic advising, grant writing, and community partnership development underscores her dedication to enhancing educational opportunities and outcomes
