Admitted student checklist
- Respond to Your Offer of Admission
Undergraduate Students
- The office of Undergraduate Admissions has sent you information regarding how to accept your offer and pay your enrollment deposit. Visit the enrollment connect portal to find more information on accepting your offer.
Graduate Students
- Rackham Graduate School has sent you an email with your UMID number and step-by-step instructions to accept your offer through Wolverine Access. For additional instructions on responding to your admissions offer, visit Rackham's Respond to the Offer. We would greatly appreciate your response as soon as possible.
Online MA Students
- To accept your offer of admission, log in to your Wolverine Access account and follow the steps outlined in your offer. Please note that enrollment is not complete until your non-refundable enrollment deposit is also submitted; your deposit will be applied toward your first term bill.
- We would greatly appreciate your response as soon as possible. You can confirm your decision deadline by checking the date listed in your offer of admission.
- If you are interested in seeking a decision extension or exploring deferral options, please write to [email protected].
- Once you select to accept the offer to join the Marsal School, you will receive additional email communication confirming your matriculation status and providing you with next steps regarding necessary materials for enrollment.
- Activate Your Uniqname & Password
- Your uniqname will be used to create your University of Michigan email address and for standard computing and university services, including financial aid, housing (residential programs), and student business transactions.
- Shortly after you accept your offer of admission, you will receive an email from Information and Technology Services (ITS) informing you that you need to set up a uniqname. You will use a One Time Identifier (OTID) found in the email and your UMID number (included in your offer of admission) to create your uniqname and password. - Once your University of Michigan email address has been set up, it is important to check it regularly. Important information about course registration, orientation, and more will be communicated to you via your U-M email address.
- Check Your Residency
- Your residency classification may be viewed in the Personal Information section of Wolverine Access.
- If your self-reported residency differs from the residency displayed in Wolverine Access, please review the Office of the Registrar's residency guidelines and complete a residency application if needed. We encourage you to complete this process promptly, as processing time may be lengthy.
- Review Your Funding & Financial Aid
- For information about your Marsal School funding, please contact the Student Funding Program Manager at [email protected].
- We encourage all students to complete the 2025–26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for federal student aid. The University of Michigan's federal school code is 002325.
- Master of arts with certification (MAC) students should also complete the 2024–25 FAFSA to be considered for financial aid during the summer term of their program.
- Questions about federal assistance should be directed to the Office of Financial Aid at [email protected] or (734) 763-6600.
- Anticipate Course Registration & Orientation Details
- Registration and orientation details vary by program. You will receive information on course registration and orientation later this winter or early in the summer.
- Obtain Your MCard
The MCard is the University of Michigan's single-card program that combines photo identification, library borrowing privileges, building access, and more.
Undergraduate & Graduate Students (Residential/In-Person)
- Students may pick up their MCard before or after their arrival on campus (available 24 hours after accepting offer of admission). Visit Get Your MCard to find an issuing station.
Online MA Students
- Although online students do not need an MCard for daily life on campus, it can be a useful resource to access student-centered discounts, provide easy identification of your student status, and, if you are on or near campus, access local transportation.
- We are working with the Treasurer's Office to mail your Mcard at the beginning of your first term. More information forthcoming.
- Submit Your Official Transcript
Online MA Students
- Admitted students must submit one official final transcript/academic record from the institution where they earned a bachelor's degree. If you have other degrees (e.g., graduate or professional), you must also submit those official final transcripts/academic records.
- The official final transcript/academic record must reach us by the end of your first term.

- Get Set Up to Learn Online
Online MA Students
- Set up your U-M email account and check it regularly.
- Update your Campus Personal Information in Wolverine Access (under Student Business).
- Familiarize yourself with Zoom video conferencing, Slack team messaging, and Canvas (where our courses will take place).
- Make sure you have appropriate working equipment for online course needs. While some class content can be accessed from a mobile device, some (e.g., live Zoom sessions) will require specific equipment or digital capabilities. Full participation in program activities will require students to have access to accessories such as microphones (some webcams have this built in) and headphones. Additionally, it is essential that online students can maintain a stable and reliable internet connection, are able to access various browser types, and utilize sufficient storage and memory capacity on their devices used for schooling.
- Look forward to our Onboarding course and Student Handbook through Canvas, which cover topics such as getting started at U-M, course registration, tuition and billing, policies, communication, resources, support, and student success. - Academic Calendar
The Office of the Registrar maintains the university's official academic calendar, where you can view important academic dates for current and future terms.
Master of Arts with Teacher Certification
- If you have been admitted to one of our master of arts with teacher certification (MAC) programs, your start and end dates may differ from the academic calendar due to student teaching requirements. Your program coordinators will share your start and end dates with you directly.
Online MA
- Due to their accelerated nature, online graduate degree programs follow a modified calendar. As a prospective online student, it may be helpful to your planning to review this calendar.
- The online program observes university-wide holidays such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day. Class will not be held on days when the university is officially closed (e.g., Thanksgiving and Labor Day).
- The main differences to be aware of for the online program are as follows:
- The online program does not recognize university breaks, e.g. the Fall Study Break and Mid-Winter Vacation (a.k.a. spring break).
- The online program holds courses through the end of the term and does not have designated “study days” or “examination days.”

- Graduate and family housing is available through the Munger Graduate Residences on Central Campus and the Northwood complex apartments and townhouses on North Campus. Northwood boasts a family friendly community, a child development center, and access to local schools and nearby shopping areas.

The Marsal School is an educational community that welcomes and supports students without regard to their immigration status.

- The Marsal School is in Ann Arbor, one of America's best university towns. While the urban energy of Detroit is just 40 miles away, Ann Arbor has a unique vibe—part small-town, part international intellectual hotbed.
- Ann Arbor is the area's main center for culture and recreation, where students can enjoy a variety of cuisine, museums, and musical and athletic events.

- Student Employment
Graduate Students (Residential/In-Person)
- Graduate students may be looking for jobs on- or off-campus to help offset the expenses of graduate school. Visit Careers to see available Graduate Student Assistant (GSA) opportunities campuswide.
- Most doctoral graduate students come into the Marsal School with graduate student instructor (GSI), graduate student research assistant (GSRA), and graduate student staff assistant (GSSA) appointments. Please contact your program administrator if you have questions about your specific appointment.
- Master's students in CSHPE should participate in the CSHPE spring placement for internships. These internships are paid experiential opportunities for 10-20 hours per week that students pursue while taking a full course load. For this reason, we do not recommend that CSHPE master's students pursue an additional part-time job at the start of their graduate program.
- Student Organizations
- Students in the Marsal School are invited to join our Marsal Education student organizations.
- Graduate students in one of our residential/in-person programs may be interested in Rackham graduate student organizations.

- Transportation & Parking Permits
- The University of Michigan offers its own bus service to and from many areas around campus. In addition to receiving this free service, all students may ride the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) buses free of charge with a valid MCard. Routes for AATA buses include over 1500 stops around the U-M campus and surrounding areas.
- The Parking and Transportation Office offers parking permits to students registered for classes.
- Alternate means of transportation can be used in Ann Arbor, including the Zipcar, bicycles, and walking.
- Undocumented and DACAmented Students
