MAISA Disciplinary Literacy Project

Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators (MAISA) General Education Leadership Network (GELN) has created a Disciplinary Literacy Task Force (DLTF) to help improve academic disciplinary literacy achievement at the secondary level across the state of Michigan. The task force will 1) develop and deliver Professional Learning on instructional and schoolwide practices for disciplinary literacy, 2) develop and disseminate resource hubs for different content areas, 3) develop and disseminate communications to publicize the work and educate educators, and 4) develop and maintain a network and community of practice among ISD consultants.
CEDER will provide multi-method (qualitative and quantitative), descriptive, process and outcome evaluation services for the MAISA DLTF. The evaluation will be grounded in Guskey’s (2000) framework for evaluating professional development. Guskey evaluates professional development on five levels: 1) participants’ reactions, 2) participants’ learning, 3) organization support and change, 4) participants’ use of new knowledge and skills, and 5) student learning outcomes.
