Our 3-year project seeks to advance theory and knowledge on how a networked, community-engaged approach to co-design and intergenerational learning can transform makerspaces into hubs of collective, STEM-rich Making for Social Innovation, or SMSI, in support of thriving communities in a changing world.

Share

SMSI involves youth, community members, and maker educators working together to leverage interdisciplinary, STEM-rich maker practices in exploring and addressing community sustainability concerns as local issues that matter in promoting community well-being and resilience. A focus on how SMSI connect youth with their communities towards STEM-engaged social innovation can serve as a novel mechanism for greater STEM-engaged citizens while also cultivating a sense of agency and social responsibilities.
