Join the U-M Teaching School
& The School at Marygrove!

Secondary undergraduate and MAC students
are invited to apply to the U-M Detroit Teaching Pathway.

Year-long Preservice Placement
This exciting and competitive opportunity would place you at the School at Marygrove—a new Detroit Public School—for a year-long placement with expert mentor teachers. The School at Marygrove is committed to teaching and learning for social justice through a project- and place-based curriculum. The school’s engineering and design focus supports students in becoming change-agents and leaders in their neighborhoods, their city, and the world.

Three-year Detroit Teaching Residency
This pathway leads to the possibility of entering the three-year Detroit Teaching Residency program.

through their teaching in urban schools.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to Secondary Undergraduates and Secondary Master of Arts with Teacher Certification (MAC) candidates.

 

U-M DETROIT TEACHING PATHWAY

  1. After indicating interest in the program, interview with Marsal School leaders for placement in Detroit Teaching Pathway
  2. Become a Teaching Intern
    Teaching Interns work with mentor teachers & conduct supported instruction in the classroom.
  3. Become a Student Teacher
    In the final semester of the program, Student Teachers take greater responsibility for instruction in collaboration with supportive mentor teachers and teaching interns.
  4. Graduate and attain teacher certification
  5. Apply to become a U-M Detroit Teaching Resident
    Teaching Residents are full-time and salaried teachers employed by Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). Residents will be selected among those candidates on the U-M Detroit Teaching Pathway with demonstrated commitments to high-quality teaching and learning for Detroit students and within this collaborative Teaching School environment.
  6. Teach for three years as a U-M Detroit Teaching Resident
    Teaching Residents are supported by U-M Marsal Family School of Education faculty and staff through professional development opportunities, curriculum development, instructional coaching, and other professional learning and leadership.
  7. Spread your impact as a Teacher-Leader
    After completing the three-year residency, U-M Detroit Teaching Residents become leaders at schools throughout Detroit and are supported with targeted job matching to continue their careers.
