Steve DesJardins is a consultant to a National Institutes of Health funded study designed to examine the prevalence and effect of hazardous mental health symptoms and substance abuse on Veteran students’ academic performance in postsecondary education. He will be assisting colleagues from the University of Michigan Health System and Veterans Affairs hospital about the use of extant data, statistical modeling issues, and survey design and analysis. Obtaining more information about how mental health and substance abuse issues affect Veteran students’ college outcomes is a critical step in assisting the Veterans Administration about optimal outreach resource allocation and interventions.
