Precision, Not Prescription: AI as a Design Partner in Teacher Professional Learning

This project investigates how AI-enabled shifts in professional learning (PL) design shape teaching effectiveness, with a focus on equitable, belonging-centered instruction.
Grounded in long-standing district partnerships, the study examines how embedding NLP-generated analyses of classroom instruction into ongoing teacher–coach cycles reshapes the quality, timing, and developmental alignment of feedback. The AI system produces a structured “Power and Pivot” report that surfaces stable and incipient instructional patterns, operating as a complementary analytic resource that sharpens, rather than replaces, human professional judgment. By comparing NLP-supported coaching to business-as-usual practice, the project tests whether making instructional patterns more visible and feedback more accessible accelerates teacher growth and yields feedback that is more usable and developmentally attuned. In doing so, the study advances Research Partnership for Professional Learning’s agenda on accelerating teacher skill development by identifying when and how AI-enabled PL design features support teacher learning under authentic implementation conditions.
