The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and the State of Michigan Department of Talent and Economic Development. GEAR UP is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. Grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade, follow the cohort through high school, and provide college scholarships to low-income students. An evaluation team from the Center for Education Design, Evaluation, and Research (CEDER) at the U-M Marsal Family School of Education, led by Stephen DesJardins, will continue working on a rigorous outcome analysis of the GEAR UP program and provide technical assistance to GEAR UP site partners.
