Jay M. Meeks serves as the Program Manager for the Learning, Equity and Engagement for Public Good (LEAPS) program. Jay is a key member of the LEAPS leadership team, representing LEAPS at appropriate University and School of Education meetings and as a representative to departments and partner organizations across the UM Campus. In addition, Jay serves as a representative of the LEAPS program to partner organizations and communities in Detroit.
Jay is an LSA alum (political science, American culture majors) and served as an elected representative on LSA Student Government (LSA-SG) where he worked closely with both students and University administrators. He is looking forward to putting this experience to use in co-leading the implementation of LEAPS in the Marsal Family School of Education.
Jay is a native Detroiter (residing in his childhood neighborhood) and serves as an active board member in the neighborhood association.
Prior to his role at the Marsal Family School of Education, Jay was a teacher preparation faculty member with focuses in clinical education, partnership development, and urban education at a small liberal arts college in the Northeast. Jay is a former middle and high school social studies teacher who appreciates the opportunity to meld his interests in education, community work, and civics into the LEAPS program.
