Djennin Z. Casab serves as the Community Engagement Specialist for the Learning, Equity, and Problem Solving for the Public Good (LEAPS) program. In this role, Djennin builds and strengthens partnerships that connect LEAPS students with community-based organizations, nonprofits, and government entities across Detroit, fostering impactful, engaged learning experiences. As well, Djennin is dedicated to cultivating strong collaborations with Detroiters, honoring and amplifying the ongoing work of the city’s residents and organizations.
With over 15 years of experience in community partnerships, Djennin brings her expertise to this work with an approach based on reciprocity, curiosity, learning, and humility. Prior to joining LEAPS, she served as a community engagement specialist with the City of Detroit’s Data Strategy & Analytics Open Data team, managed the Community Engagement Registry at Wayne State University, and directed the Service-Learning and Civic Engagement initiatives at Madonna University. Additionally, she served on the board of Michigan Campus Compact, and co-led the Detroit Data Coalition and the Government Open Data Access to All (GO DATA) Advisory Commision, furthering her commitment to civic engagement and community collaboration.
Djennin holds a Master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Madonna University and a Bachelor’s degree from Universidad de las Américas in Mexico City. Based at the Marygrove Conservancy campus in northwest Detroit, she continues to build meaningful and reciprocal partnerships to advance students’ community-engaged learning as well as Detroit’s vibrant communities.
