VISIT

Michigan

The longer you stay, the more you’ll realize that Michigan is a purely magical state. A salt-free coastline, a car-less island, a motor city, and Fishtown are just some of the things that make Michigan a great place to visit and live. Here are just some of the amazing destinations you can experience in the mitten state, which was named the top travel destination in the world for outdoor enthusiasts in 2020.

Blue Water Coasts

East to west and north to south, no matter which way you go, you’ll find fresh water. Michiganders pride themselves on having the longest freshwater shoreline in the world. The communities that dot the coastline are as precious as this natural resource. In towns like Grand Haven, Traverse City, Holland, Port Huron, Saugatuck, and Mackinac Island, you’ll find culture, history, and outdoor recreational opportunities. These hallmark communities give you just a taste of all Michigan has to offer.

Rich Heritage

Michigan’s storied past has created some of the most iconic cities in the world. Detroit has many names (Motor City, Motown and Hockey Town, just to name a few), but it’s become so much more than that. Its entrepreneurial spirit and steely determination have given rise to a renaissance that is redefining this diamond in the rough.

Go north and you’ll find Frankenmuth, a quiet and quaint German town that attracts thousands each year with its world-famous chicken dinners and year-round Christmas celebrations.

Keep driving up I-75 and you’ll eventually hit the Mackinac Bridge—the entryway to Michigan’s upper peninsula. Consider taking a ferry to the world-famous Mackinac Island. This adorable island, with its New England charm and horse-drawn carriages, is a must-see.

Two Peninsulas, Two Worlds

Michigan’s two peninsulas are as distinct culturally as they are geographically. While the lower peninsula might be a good option for water recreation, snow enthusiasts will love the Upper Peninsula. It snows in the “U.P.” about 200 inches per year, and its rocky terrain makes for great downhill skiing, snowboarding, and hiking.
