ICE in the Heartland: Community Impacts of Worksite Immigration Raids

Instructional materials complement website and art associated with public health project ICE in the Heartland: Community Impacts of Worksite Immigration Raids.

These educational resources provide arts-integrated activities, discussions, and historical lesson plans on immigration and immigration policy to complement the work of the ICE in the Heartland project.

The ICE in the Heartland project uses a community-engaged, public health approach to document the impacts of worksite immigration raids on arrested immigrants, their families, and others in the community.  It also analyzes the ways community actors respond to mitigate harms to immigrants, their families, and others. As a part of this work, young artists who engaged with interview data and community participants created moving works of art that documented and illustrated the personal experiences reflected in the study. These works then provide fertile material for analysis and discussion for students to learn about immigration and immigration policy on a deeper human level.

If you have questions or comments, or are interested in using these materials in your classroom, please reach out to the ICE in the Heartland project lead, Dr. William Lopez, ([email protected]).
