Reforming the Traditional School Schedule: The Detroit School of Arts DPS U-M Partnership School Project
PERIOD:
TO
The Detroit School of Arts partnership team with work with the Detroit School of Arts (DSA) over a five-year period, beginning in 2012-13, to expand on the high school’s vision of rigorous arts-based academic education. The academic vision will be built on engaging students in inquiry projects that develop sophisticated literacy, mathematical, scientific, social, and artistic skills. These tools prepare young people for college, careers, and participation in a rapidly changing and global society. At the same time, a rich and robust arts education will enrich students’ development and support active, disciplined, and creative engagement in academic learning. This vision aligns with and advances the Detroit Public Schools’ commitment to educational excellence, and the partnership offers a model of innovation that engages, informs, and serves the local community and the larger community of educational reformers.
