Developing a teacher educator certification in California

This grant will support the development of a new teacher educator certification program that will support California teacher educators in developing capability with practice-based, justice-focused approaches, with a focus on serving the needs of English language learners and emergent bilingual students. The planned program will last approximately 18 months and will require participants to complete and submit artifacts from a series of performance tasks in order to achieve certification. The focus of the grant is on the design of the curriculum, including specific activities and learning experiences, some in-person and some virtual, of two initial strands of the program, in English language arts and in math, and on the development of budget and staffing models to support the program. TeachingWorks intends to onboard the first cohort of program participants in summer 2020 at the new Summer Institute.
