For the state of Michigan, it is not required that you have a teaching certification. However, many job postings in Michigan list both a teaching and an administrator certificate as requirements.
Yes. Most students complete internship hours within their employing school/district. If you are not currently employed in a school, Marsal will assist you with arranging a suitable placement in your local area.
The administrator certification is integrated into the degree program with the two internships (each 15 weeks long) built into specific courses for those completing the degree plus the certification. The internships total at least 260 hours, divided among elementary, secondary, and central office settings. Fieldwork is mentored by certified administrators from both Marsal and your district, with regular online seminars connecting you to peers across Michigan.
The program is designed for current educators and teacher leaders seeking to advance into administrative roles. The online format makes it accessible to professionals across Michigan. Only students completing the online Master of Arts in Leading Educational Innovation and Transformation are eligible for the PK-12 School Administrator Certification.
The PK-12 School Administrator Certification cannot be completed as a standalone credential.
Yes, to be employed full-time as a principal, assistant principal, or central office administrator in a Michigan public or private school, the Standard School Administrator Certificate is required by law. Please note that central office administrator positions may also require central office certification.

The program uses multiple key assessments to track your development. The assessments include reflections, leadership inventories, and capstone projects. Regular evaluations ensure you receive targeted feedback and support as you progress.
Graduates will meet all requirements to apply for the Michigan PK-12 School Administrator Certificate, which is necessary for serving as a principal or assistant principal in Michigan PK-12 schools. Superintendent or central office administrator positions may also require central office certification.
