Zari E. Mahoney-Johnson serves as the Project Manager for Life-Changing Education, a two-year, university-wide initiative exploring how learning transforms lives, housed in the Marsal School of Education. In this role, she leads program design, implementation, and evaluation across the initiative’s impact areas, ensuring that all programs are equity-centered, student-focused, and aligned with the school’s mission. Zari collaborates with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to create transformative educational experiences and systems that remove barriers to success while extending the impact of learning from the university into communities near and far.
She works closely with the leadership team to advance educational equity and opportunity and is deeply committed to fostering belonging, cultivating community, and empowering students and lifelong learners to thrive academically, personally, and professionally.
A Michigan native, Zari earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Community Action & Social Change from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Higher Education, and Student Affairs from Eastern Michigan University. Known for her relational approach, intentionality, innovation, and expertise in project management, she is thrilled to return in this capacity to support the call to “Look to Michigan”—a role that continually reminds her, “There’s no place like home—Go Blue!”
