Dr. Drake is a Lecturer (III) in the Educational Studies program at the University of Michigan’s (U-M) Marsal Family School of Education where he has worked since 2013. Dr. Drake completed my Ph.D. in K-12 Educational Administration at Michigan State University (MSU) in May of 2023. Dr. Drake completed his Ph.D. on a part-time basis beginning in 2015 while working in the Educational Studies program as the Manager of Academic Program Development (2015-2022) and as the Associate Director for Educational Leadership and Policy (2013-2015). Prior to his roles at U-M, Dr. Drake worked for 10 years as a teacher and educational leader in under-served communities.
Dr. Drake’s scholarship, teaching, and administrative practice aspire to reduce racialized and gendered harms that may result from educational systems and processes. Specifically, he examines how the structures, policies, and contexts of learning organizations are associated with the experiences and outcomes for those whose identities have been historically marginalized. Current projects examine the experiences of school principals, and teaching evaluations in higher education. Dr. Drake employs quantitative and qualitative research methods.
