Hilary earned her PhD from the Combined Program in Education and Psychology at the University of Michigan. She studies the ways in which learning environments influence academic motivation and engagement among adolescents. Specifically, her work focuses on creating motivating and meaningful classroom learning experiences for adolescents from marginalized communities. Her experiences as a middle school and high school teacher deeply inform her approach to research. She has engaged in partnership research, including co-designing projects with high school teachers and administrators.
Hilary is working with Dr. Jamaal Matthews and Dr. Lin Li on the project, “From Coaching Conversations to Instructional Change.”
Projects
This project examines how instructional coaching conversations support teachers in responding to student needs, reflecting on their own practices, and developing inclusive instructional strategies.
