Alex Bercu serves as the Director of Budget and Financial Planning for the Marsal Family School of Education. He is the leader of Marsal's Budget & Financial Planning team, overseeing the financial administration and internal control activities for the school. Alex's core responsibilities include building and implementing the annual operating budget, providing timely financial reports, and analyzing trends to assist leadership in resource allocation decisions. He leads a team that provides high-quality financial administrative support to faculty, staff, and students, focusing on long-term financial sustainability and adherence to policies.
Before joining Marsal, Alex spent more than ten years in finance roles at Michigan Medicine. Most recently, he served as the Senior Manager of the Clinical Financial Planning & Analysis (CFPA) Team, where he collaborated with executive leadership on the organization's operating and capital budgets and managed a team of financial professionals. Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Michigan State University (MSU) and an MBA from the University of Illinois, with specializations in Business Analytics and Mergers and Acquisitions.
Outside of work, Alex and his wife, Taylor, enjoy spending time with their two dogs, Percy and Miko. They are avid travelers and enjoy exploring new places both internationally and domestically. Alex also enjoys getting outdoors to golf and fish, and is a dedicated fan of local sports teams, including the Pistons, Lions, Tigers, and his MSU Spartans.
