Teach Blue Fellow
Establishing and building authentic relationships with students will increase their social and emotional health, promote a sense of belonging, and improve individual academic performance and confidence.
Problem of Practice
Some students lack early numeracy skills such as mastering number words and numerals, structuring numbers, and basic addition and subtraction—all of which affect the development of future mathematical understanding. When they struggle to mentally work with numbers and have basic number sense, they are challenged with being able to problem solve more complex, multi-step math problems.

Accounts from Maria DeRosia
Early math literacy is so important. We can learn so much about our students at the very beginning of the year by knowing their math competencies. How could this understanding help us inform our teaching?
Math literacy and numeracy development are crucial skills needed for students not only to be successful in math but also to have the confidence to work with numbers efficiently.
