PhD student BK Byun and Michael Bastedo win the Outstanding Research Paper award from Korean AERA

CSHPE PhD student BK Byun and Professor Michael Bastedo received the Outstanding Research Paper award from Korean-

American Educational Researchers Association (KAERA). Their paper, “Admissions Officers as Street-Level Bureaucrats: Exercising Discretion to Enact Competing Concepts of Equity,” is forthcoming in Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis.

Held in Los Angeles, the theme of the 2026 KAERA Conference was "Bridging Past, Present, and Future: Envisioning Futures in Education by (Re)membering Our Histories." It took place in conjunction with the 2026 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting.

The Outstanding Research Paper award is established with support from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States, and recognizes an exceptional research paper that addresses critical educational issues facing Koreans and overseas Koreans.
