New volume published by Springer is dedicated to Ed Silver
Research Studies on Learning and Teaching of Mathematics discusses research on mathematical problem solving, inspired by the work of Silver.

Inspired by the scholarly work of Ed Silver, Research Studies on Learning and Teaching of Mathematics is dedicated to the William A. Brownell Collegiate Professor of Education and Professor of Mathematics. Along with invited co-authors, the book is written by contributors who were at one time Silver’s doctoral or post-doctoral colleagues. Silver notes that nearly half of the contributors, including two editors of the volume, studied or worked at the Marsal School. Others are associated with his time at the University of Pittsburgh.
The new publication focuses on the research areas that have benefited from Silver’s intellectual contributions and influence, such as designing instructional tasks, preservice teacher learning, in service teacher professional development, and mathematics assessment. In addition to discussing research on mathematical problem solving, Research Studies on Learning and Teaching of Mathematics provides insight on mathematical task design and explains the “art” of problem posing, as developed by Silver. The book also features a brief bio of Silver, showing his intellectual journey, key milestones in his career, and scholarly accomplishments.
