Maisie L. Gholson to serve on the new Mathematical Sciences Education Board

Associate Professor Maisie L. Gholson will serve on the Mathematical Sciences Education Board (MSEB) for the National Academies. The MSEB brings together experts in mathematical research and education to provide guidance at the national level on a broad range of issues related to mathematical education.

The MSEBA is a new board situated within the National Academies’ Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences. The board will be responsible for programs and activities that provide guidance at the national level that brings to bear high-level and balanced expertise from the mathematical sciences research and education communities and their stakeholders on a broad range of issues related to mathematical education. 

A former high school mathematics teacher, Gholson's primary area of expertise is the learning and identity development of children and youth in mathematics, with particular attention to how social identities mediate learning interactions and trajectories.
