Reuben Kapp’s presentation, The Impacts of COVID-19 on Student and Institutional Decision-making, was recently awarded The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) Research Center SEM Research Track honor. The honor was bestowed at the 2022 The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Strategic Enrollment Management Conference.

Strategic enrollment management (SEM) is a campus-wide framework that supports institutional enrollment goals by enhancing student access to and success in higher education, best business practices, and comprehensive institutional planning. SEM underscores the importance of data-driven decision-making models, which is why AACRAO and the NSC Research Center partner to highlight SEM Conference sessions focusing on the use of research to achieve enrollment management goals and metrics.

Kapp’s presentation shared findings from research led by Stephen DesJardins and Michael Bastedo. Their project, COVID-19: Understanding Changes to PS Student Enrollment Patterns, is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It uses national data currently available, alongside interviews to be conducted with enrollment managers, to examine the effects of the pandemic on college enrollments and produce timely information useful for colleges, universities, and postsecondary policymakers.
