Paul R. Pintrich Annual Colloquium: Who is the top dog in adolescence? Exploring the role of school transitions on student adjustment
Online
Presented by Nicole Brass
Early adolescence is characterized by many exciting and significant changes, which for some individuals, includes the transition from a small elementary school to a large middle school. Decades of prior research has examined how this transition can impact students’ experiences in school. However, several important factors that likely shape how students experience this transition have received less attention – students’ age at the time of the transition and their perceptions of the changes they are undergoing. In this talk, I will present some initial findings from my dissertation work that begins to address this gap. In the spirit of honoring Paul Pintrich’s legacy, I will discuss how my work aligns with his vision for advancing motivation science.
