dije Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon: A Community Celebration for Frederick Douglass, Mary Church Terrell, & Black History
Please join us for our upcoming dije Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon as part of the School's diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity dije initiatives.
To celebrate Black History Month and Frederick Douglass’ birthday, we will transcribe the papers of Mary Church Terrell. Terrell was a foundational Black activist, educator, thinker, and writer. Mary Church Terrell helped to create Douglass Day back in 1895. Douglass Day was one of the original inspirations for Black History Month and was revived starting in 2017 by the Colored Conventions Project.
We will participate in the 2021 Douglass Day live broadcast and transcribe Mary Church Terrell’s papers on By The People, the new crowdsourcing platform by the Library of Congress. Also, this event centers conversations on the importance of Black history in education spaces and beyond. Douglass Day is presented by the Center for Black Digital Research at Penn State University, the Colored Conventions Project, and the Library of Congress. The dije office will host this virtual transcribe-a-thon session for students at the School of Education at the University of Michigan.
The Zoom link will be available to all who register.
