Kela Brown is a higher education advocate and practitioner with over five years of experience advancing student-centered initiatives across college access, recruitment, and sense of belonging development. Her work is grounded in a deep commitment to equity, community engagement, and creating learning environments where students feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. Kela holds a master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership and is currently a doctoral student whose research focuses on student development, sense of belonging, and social movements within higher education. Their scholarly interests examine how institutional structures, campus culture, and collective action shape student identity, persistence, and engagement particularly for historically marginalized communities.
Bridging research and practice, Kela brings a practitioner-scholar lens to her work, integrating theory, data, and lived experience to inform program design, strategy, and institutional change. They are especially interested in how colleges and universities can move beyond access to foster meaningful inclusion and civic engagement.
