EDUC 718 3 Critical Participatory Action Research in Education
CPAR is understood as an approach to educational research that centers community and participant experiences, and it is premised on the belief that "No research on us, without us." Students will be introduced to the conceptual foundations that undergird CPAR, including its epistemological, ethical, and methodological commitments, while also exploring CPAR as an approach that fosters engagement between educational researchers and communities that seek to document, challenge, and transform conditions of systemic inequities an injustices within educational and community settings. Through readings, dialogue, critical analysis, activity-based and community-engaged learning experiences, students will have opportunities to  critically, reflectively, and practically engage with CPAR as a process that frames a study's research questions, methods, design, analysis, action, and knowledge production.
