Two JPEE students named Institute for the Humanities 2023-24 Graduate Student Fellows
Anna Almore and Carlina Duan will take up residence at the institute during their fellowship periods.
Joint Program in English and Education students Anna Almore and Carlina Duan have been named Institute for the Humanities 2023-24 Graduate Student Fellows, reports The University Record. Almore and Duan will join the 2023-24 cohort of graduate students and faculty members to form an intellectual community while pursuing original research and participating in regular, cross-disciplinary fellows’ seminars.
Their respective research projects are:
Anna Almore, James A. Winn Graduate Fellow; “Care in Containment: The Geography of Black and Indigenous Encounters within the Captivity of School.”
Carlina Duan, David and Mary Hunting Graduate Fellow; “Towards a Disobedient Poetics: The Generative Practices of Eight Contemporary Documentary Poets of Color.”
The Institute for the Humanities facilitates work that examines humanities traditions broadly across space and time, deepens synergies among the humanities, the arts and disciplines across the university, and brings the humanities to public life.
Each year it provides fellowships for U-M faculty, graduate students and visiting scholars who work on scholarly and artistic projects. It also offers a wide array of public and scholarly events, including public lectures, workshops and discussions.
