Professors Chris Quintana and Rebecca Quintana develop a virtual SCECH opportunity for Michigan teachers
Teachers can earn 15.0 SCECH credits/hours by completing the course, “Generative AI as a Learning Design Partner.”

Associate Professor Chris Quintana and Clinical Assistant Professor Rebecca Quintana have developed a virtual three-course series, “Generative AI as a Learning Design Partner,” a learning opportunity now available on Michigan Online. Michigan teachers are required to complete 150 hours of professional learning to renew their certification. This virtual series is a low-cost option for Michigan teachers to fulfill 15.0 State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH).
In “Generative AI as a Learning Design Partner,” learners will explore opportunities and applications for generative AI in supporting and enhancing learning design activities and tasks. Participants will learn how generative AI tools, like ChatGPT, can be used to create learning outcomes, draft course outlines, content, and assessments, and evaluate course design. They will also be able to determine the strengths and limitations of using generative AI in educational settings and develop strategies for engaging with educational stakeholders. Learners will have opportunities to engage in discussion forums, course workbooks, and be assessed through quizzes as they engage in the course series. Additionally, they will have opportunities for hands-on practice and reflection with the generative AI tool of their choosing.
Those interested may access this learning opportunity through Michigan Online.
