Contributors celebrate Larsen-Freeman’s impact on the field of second language teaching.

Language Teaching Research Quarterly, the peer-reviewed journal that publishes research within the area of second language teaching, has dedicated a special issue in honor of Professor Emerita Diane Larsen-Freeman. The 22 papers included in the issue celebrate Larsen-Freeman’s landmark achievements and enormous influence in language teaching, language learning, second language development, and teacher education.
“The major papers we assembled in this special issue have provided a comprehensive review of Diane’s celebratory career as a language teacher, researcher, book author, journal and book editor, and teacher educator,” write co-editors Edward Wen and Hassan Mohebbi.
Many of Larsen-Freeman’s close friends, colleagues, and collaborators have contributed anecdotes about their encounters with her over the years. As well, parts of the special issue are devoted to presenting theoretical discussions of key issues in the field of applied linguistics and reporting results of empirical studies pertaining to domains such as complexity/dynamic systems theory, grammar learning and teaching, task-based language teaching and writing, and L2 instruction and second language development.
