MLK Children and Youth Program featured on WEMU
January 20, 2025
The program is part of the University of Michigan’s MLK Day Symposium.
Assistant Dean for K–12 Recruitment and Special Projects, Henry Meares, spoke with WEMU about the annual MLK Children and Youth Program hosted by the Marsal Family School of Education. Meares has been organizing the day-long event for 27 years with the aim of helping school children of all ages contextualize the civil rights movement through storytelling, songs, and interactive activities.
“It’s just a day of fun, day of music, trying to relive not just Dr. King, but others who stood by his side; team members and other civil rights activists who were not as well-known as Dr. King,” Meares told WEMU.
