The Urgency of Fair and Equitable Holistic Review of College Applicants is focused on holistic review, a strategy in college admissions that assesses an applicant’s unique experiences alongside a range of indicators that include grades, extra curriculars, environmental context, among other factors. Written by Michael Bastedo and published by the Campaign for College Opportunity, the brief is a tool admissions officers and college leaders can use to facilitate a fairer and more thoughtful approach to reviewing student applications and ensuring a more diverse student body.

The Campaign for College Opportunity notes that achieving racial equity will be even more challenging as a result of the recent Supreme Court ban on race-conscious admissions. However, holistic review can ensure greater equity and access for students if admission officers and college leaders act decisively and with commitment.

On Tuesday, July 25 Bastedo will join national colleagues to discuss the brief on a webinar hosted by the Campaign for College Opportunity. Additionally, on Wednesday, July 26 he will give remarks at the National Summit on Educational Opportunity, hosted by President Biden and the Department of Education.
