The Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) has announced that Gertrude Buck Collegiate Professor Emerita; Professor Emerita of English Language and Literature; Arthur F. Thurnau Professor Anne Ruggles Gere is the 2025 CCCC Exemplar Awardee. The CCCC Exemplar Award honors a person whose “years of service as an exemplar for our organization represent the highest ideals of scholarship, teaching, and service to the entire profession.”

In addition to her scholarship and research, which has explored topics such as Feminist Rhetorics, Writing Across the Curriculum, reading-writing relationships, religious rhetorics and Writing Groups, Gere is recognized as a trailblazing leader and caring mentor and advocate.

“Described as a ‘goliath,’ the breadth of Gere’s field-shaping scholarship; wide-ranging service; and exemplary mentoring are recognized by her nominees,” writes CCCC. “They all acknowledge that Anne Gere is a remarkable scholar, researcher, mentor, and leader within the broad fields of rhetoric, composition, and writing studies.”

The award will be presented at the CCCC Annual Convention in Baltimore, Maryland, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Opening General Session. Gere will be the thirty-fifth CCCC Exemplar.
