In this episode of the Marsal Education Innovator Showcase, Professor Barry Fishman provides a view into LEAPS (Learning, Equity, and Problem Solving for the Public Good), an innovative new undergraduate program at the University of Michigan. Grounded in the learning sciences, LEAPS is designed to engage students in partnerships with organizations in Detroit, building knowledge through a combination of classroom education and experience in community-based settings. Professor Fishman shares the vision, structure, and challenges of building LEAPS, highlights the central role of Detroit campus, and explains why learning that is equitable, approachable, and valuable to people from all walks of life is at the heart of this program. This episode also explores how LEAPS is redefining the undergraduate student experience and serving as a model for how to shape learning through challenging, real-world activities.
