Fall 2017 – Pedagogies of Diversity, Inclusion, Justice, and Equity (Section 001)
Marsal Family School of Education Building
INSTRUCTOR: Maren Oberman
This mini-seminar is for instructors interested in moving the concepts of diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity (DIJE) from the theoretical to the practical in their university courses. Participants will analyze reflections of scholars across disciplines and segments of higher education about teaching courses centered on issues of racial and social justice. These readings will guide our discussions of how their own pedagogies can more centrally account for DIJE. We will study and create syllabi and course assignments, a teaching philosophy statement, and pedagogical tools for class discussions. We will also consider pedagogies of DIJE in relation to teaching evaluations and merit/promotion criteria.
