Dr. Van Es has worked with a research collaborative, consisting of a group of middle and high school mathematics teachers, community youth educators, and university researchers/ teacher educators worked together for four years to advance theory on teacher noticing for equity and to co-design a professional learning model to support mathematics teachers’ noticing for equity and justice.
In this talk, Dr. Van Es will share the cases of two teachers to illustrate how bringing teachers’ together in this context supported them narrating the nature of their classroom noticing and how it supports them disrupting patterns of inequity in mathematics education, as well as how they came to identify blind spots in their noticing that can become areas for growth and expansion.
