U-M Board of Regents reappoints SOE Dean Elizabeth Moje 

In a statement, Provost Collins wrote, "Dean Moje has demonstrated her leadership to the School of Education with a continued commitment to academic excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion, research, and education. Her commitment through a pandemic to the school’s faculty, staff, and students was valued and noticed campus wide."

Since her original appointment in 2017, Dean Moje has overseen the launch of several new programs at SOE, including the introduction of a minor in undergraduate education and a master's in Program Evaluation and Improvement Research in Education. She has advanced the work of the Center for Education Design, Evaluation, and Research (CEDER), and championed the integration of diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity (dije) throughout the SOE curriculum, making the school a leader in the campus-wide DEI initiative. 

In 2018, Dean Moje collaborated with partners in Detroit, including Detroit Public Schools Community District, The Kresge Foundation, and the Marygrove Conservancy, to develop the transformational Detroit P-20 partnership. Together, these key stakeholders are realizing a vision for a cradle-to-career model of education, with the School of Education co-developing the instructional and operational model for the campus. The first classes of early childhood and Grade 9 students began in 2019, and the school will continue to add grades each year. Among their accomplishments is the creation of the nation’s first Teaching School, which includes a three-year residency program for novice teachers inspired by the medical model of professional education.

Upon her reappointment, Dean Moje, who began her career at the SOE 24 years ago, addressed faculty, students, and staff in a letter. "I am honored to be reappointed by the Regents of the University of Michigan for a second term as dean of the School of Education. It is a privilege to serve the school in this role, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue building on the momentum we have created together." She went on to note that she welcomes the work that lies ahead. "The work we do together in the next five years will be challenging. I don’t just mean difficult; I mean challenging: We challenge norms. We challenge ideas. We challenge systems. We challenge injustices."
