Teaching intern Carly Silverstein and field instructor Michele Madden win Michigan Association of Teacher Educators awards
Elementary teaching intern Carly Silverstein won the Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year Award from the Michigan Association of Teacher Educators (MATE). Michele Madden, an elementary field instructor, won the MATE award for being an Outstanding Clinical Experience Supervisor.

This year, MATE received over 100 applications for their awards, which include Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year, Outstanding Cooperating Teacher of the Year, Outstanding Clinical Experience Supervisor, Outstanding Mentor of the Year, and Outstanding Teacher Leader of the Year.
Silverstein was selected for her demonstration of innovation and exemplary practice during student teaching. Madden was honored for her contribution to the theoretical/practice base of pre-service teachers. The award criteria include having a continuous role in the teacher education field, as well as demonstrating effective modeling, coaching, and conferencing techniques.
The winners will receive recognition at an upcoming professional meeting. In addition, they will receive a plaque and a free membership in MATE for the following academic year.
