Join us for coffee via Zoom! As part of the School of Education’s festivities for Homecoming weekend, as well as our upcoming Centennial in 2021, we are launching the “Coffee with…” series as an opportunity for alumni and friends to engage with SOE faculty.

You are invited to join the inaugural virtual coffee chat, which will feature an information conversation about the most recent research findings of Professor Angela Calabrese Barton, Professor Betsy Davis, and Professor Leslie Herrenkohl, moderated by Dean Elizabeth Birr Moje.

Professors Calabrese Barton and Davis will discuss how one community has built capacity for disrupting injustice and supporting each other during the COVID-19 crisis. In-depth interviews with parents, youth, and local community center leaders illustrate the experiences of people who have been most affected by the pandemic, and the ways in which they engage with various sources of information and each other. This work is part of a larger project intended to study what and how people learn about the COVID-19 pandemic in real-time, and how they activate this knowledge towards informed decision-making. This larger study involves 60 participants across two large urban areas representing different geographic regions of the US, where we have decades-long sustainable research-practice partnerships with multiple community-based institutions.

Following the moderated conversation, there will be time for Q&A. Please register for the event and submit questions for Professor Calabrese Barton and Professor Davis below. You may also ask questions during the Zoom. We hope you are able to join the event!

Please contact Erica Jenkins at ekjen@umich.edu with any questions.
